Dear friends of the Martinů Festtage,
Dear Sir or Madam,
“Now we should stop!” We said after the last chords of Martinů's apocalyptic “Isaiah” in the wonderful large synagogue of Basel during the last Martinů feast days. An event that apparently moved all those involved deeply and was dubbed "Concert of the Year" by the press. But that's not how it was meant ...
We had planned concerts for this year as well, which you should like to attend in large numbers with curiosity. Some of the programs have been elaborately prepared and designed over the years in order to meet your expectations. We wanted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Martinů Festival with dignity.
During these days, however, we had to realize that we cannot guarantee a high-quality and reliable implementation of our festival under the current circumstances and therefore cancel it with a heavy heart.
We thank you for your appreciation for decades. It is from which we draw, in humility towards Martinů's mental attitude, which can be felt in each of his works and which connects us all in the most beautiful way.
We now have to get up again, but we hope that you will get through the next few months well and healthily and that the cancellation of this year's festive season will increase your longing and anticipation for the coming festival next year!
On behalf of the entire Martinů Festtage team, I warmly greet you,
Your Robert Kolinsky
